have been upgraded in 2008 and maybe not as described on this page.

Sherwood Pines Visitor's Centre
The Pines Visitor Centre is just a couple of miles or so down
the road from the infamous Sherwood Forest visitors centre and the Major Oak,
Home of the legendary Robin Hood. Sherwood Pines is a great place to start a
forest adventure whether it be walking, orienteering or mountain biking. You
can also hire and buy cycles from Pines cycle centre. A variety of trails lead from
the visitor centre around the forest or there is plenty to do on the adventure
playground near the picnic site. The visitor centre area is open throughout
the year from 8:00am (closing times seasonally variable)

Off road
mountain bike trails
These are a series of single track trails which are designed to provide a
challenging ride over rough terrain. A variety of obstacles are present along
the way to test your bike handling and nerve. All the trails start and finish
at a common point and are colour coded black.
Training
Circuit
There is also a 1.5mile training circuit allowing you to time yourself over a
fixed distance.
The Jungle
This is a project where local clubs and riders get the chance to help and
design and build off road trails for the experienced mountain biker
The Dual
Descender
The Dual Descender comprises two start gates with two parallel tracks running
from each of these gates. This gives you the chance to race against a friend
over some very rough and technical terrain. Jumps and drop offs are being
built and changed regularly.
This trail is colour coded black black
and is only suitable for experienced riders with robust bikes
Adventure
cycle trail
This is a six mile cycle trail which takes you deeper into the forest (Colour
coded blue). It is not suitable for trailers as anti-motorcycle barriers are
difficult to negotiate. The trail has several hills and the surface is
variable. This trail is suitable for fit family groups.
The off road trails (coded Black) and the Sustrans National Cycle Route 6 can also be accessed from this trail.

Easy going cycle trail suitable for beginners and family groups. with Green
colour coded markers, This route is ideal for inexperienced cyclists and for
cycle trailers
Route Colour Codes
These Routes are graded to the CTC
and the Forestry commision national
standards, and are as follows:
Green - Easy
Gradients - Shallow.
Surface - Compacted surfaces 2m - 3m
wide
Suitable for - Occasional cyclists
and Families
Blue - Moderate
Gradients - Moderate with some steep
sections that may have to be walked.
Surface - Compacted surfaces 2m - 3m
wide with up to 10% of the route on
rough tracks under 2m wide.
Suitable for - Novice cyclists
and families
Red - Hard
Gradients - Steep.
Surface - Width under 1m wide with
range of surfaces including rough
narrow tracks
Suitable for - Good cyclists with
Mountain bikes
Black - Severe.
Gradients - Steep and with drop offs.
Surface - Mostly on rough narrow
tracks.
Suitable for - Expert cyclists with
Robust Mountain bikes.
